No. 49 Horst and grabens cut by dike

Last known location: Spring, TX

↩ Back

This wooden block features a stratified sequence of maple, cherry, Brazilian cherry, poplar, paduak, and movingui that is cut by two opposing normal faults and a vertical dike of black walnut. These strata are exposed in an uplifted central horst that is incised by two opposing, river-cut, V-shaped valleys. The dike erodes relatively easily and localizes low points in the ridges between valleys. The base of the block measures roughly 4 1/4 by 5 inches and is finished with Tried & True® linseed oil and beeswax.
