No. 115 Graben cut by dike

Last known location: Houston, TX

↩ Back

This wooden block features a gently dipping stratified sequence of maple, cherry, green poplar, yellowheart, mahogany veneer, purpleheart, and beech. Two opposing normal faults cut this sequence and drop the central fault block in a full graben. The graben is then cut by a vertical dike of black walnut. Strata are exposed in a branching stream network to accentuate Rule of Vs patterns. This base of this block measures roughly 4 1/2 by 5 1/4 inches and is finished with a durable satin lacquer.
