No. 102 Graben cut by normal fault & dike

Last known location: Denton, UK

↩ Back

This wooden block features a gently dipping stratified sequence of mahogany, paduak, maple, mahogany veneer, cherry and maple veneer that is cut by a vertical dike of black walnut. These strata and the dike are two normal faults with opposing dips that down-drop the central block into a graben. The entire sequence is then cut by a third normal fault, making for some interesting cross-cutting relationships! The sequence is exposed in a dendritic pattern of broad valleys to accentuate Rule of Vs patterns. The base of the block measures a little more than 4 1/2 inches square and is finished with Tried & True® linseed oil and beeswax.
